Abstract:
The social desire for broader application of noise-reducing road surfaces is inhibited by bad experiences in locations with high traffic load. For example, on heavily loaded roads, crossing surfaces, in corners a short lifetime performs. If some of these sites are present in a certain road, for practical reasons, the entire range is not provided with noise reducing asphalt. With the advent of the Self-Healing technology does this changes. When at the critical locations the asphalt mixture is provided with fine steel fibers, the surface can be "healed" during its lifetime. This is done by driving with an induction device at the surface. A short "heat shot" through the steel fibers, causes melting of the bituminous binder and because of that, hairline cracks in the asphalt layer are closed. The asphalt mixture will "reset" and start a new life.
