Abstract:
A recent study initiated by SBB was started to investigate in the differences of noise radiation at several sites in Switzerland (Monitoring Stations). One part of this study consisted of test on samples of rail pads, which were taken from those tracks, where measurements were carried out, to test them afterwards at laboratory. Doing this way, a direct comparison of the dynamic behaviour of the rail pads in track versus defined force effects was made possible. Two methods of testing the rail pads at laboratory were defined, a) a low frequency test with a nearly rectangular force Impact, b) a static preload superposed by a high frequency force. The results of both testing methods are presented and discussed with respect to the results obtained at track.
