Abstract:
Open plan office users often complain of annoyances due to noise. Acoustic
simulations would permit to easily assess the acoustic quality of the work
environment. Currently, the acoustics of open plan offices is difficult to
model with computer simulation software in order to obtain quick results. This
paper presents the results of a parametric study on some example cases of open
plan offices. Different simulations and model parameters have been
investigated by using the ray-tracing simulation software ICARE developed by
CSTB. Double-edge diffraction as well as the influence of cluttering have been
studied. The sensibility of the results to the accuracy of the applied
absorption coefficients on the different surfaces will be presented. The
influence of the parameters on different acoustic criteria such as STI and
D2,S has been studied. Sound mapping of the open plan offices permit to
visualize the sound field distribution in space and to better understand the
sound propagation in a work environment. This work is part of the MEPAS
project, a common 2-year project between INRS and CSTB funded by ANSES, which
aims to develop a rapid calculation method for the prediction of open plan
office acoustics.
