Abstract:
Listening to the past at the museum Is there a particular sound for a specific historical period? And is it possible for cultural historical museums to recreate e.g. the sounds of the past, or the sounds of a specific place in their exhibitions? Using sound in the exhibition "On the edge of war, neutrality between war and welfare" at the new museum “Mosede Fort, Denmark 1914-18” it has been possible to avoid a lot of text in the exhibition. One of the mantras in developing the exhibition has been that the visitors should be able to gain insight into an important section in Denmark's history without reading long texts. The use of sound has made this possible. The sound in the exhibition shapes the room, and gives the visitor the feeling of being on the place or in the time the exhibition conveys.
